An Operating System is the fundamental software that manages a computer system. It takes care of the way your hardware operates, the communication with peripheral devices like a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between various applications, along with the prioritization of applications if several run at the same time. Each and every program that's installed on a desktop or a laptop works by sending requests to the OS for various services by using an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS can be done through a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting field, the OS is what commands a web hosting server along with all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application for example a VOIP or a game server. When there are virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS which runs on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server plans feature three Linux releases that you could pick from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being cost-free, the OSs are extremely stable and secure and the reason to offer the 3 of them is to ensure that you will be able to run any app that you'd like, because different pieces of software may have different requirements regarding the environment they can be used on. Each of the three OSs is backed by a large community of developers who have produced thousands of software packages that you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System that you pick, you will also be able to choose between three different Control Panels to take care of your web hosting content. Of course, in case you decide that you need some other OS, we could always re-install the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also offer you weekly updates of the Operating System for optimum stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

If you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a larger choice with regard to the system environment on the machine as different apps can have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and take advantage of a stable and secure web hosting service. Based on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you've selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also upgrade the OS regularly to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
