雅法是克莱蒙麦肯纳学院和克莱蒙研究生院萨瓦托利（Henrry Salvatori）教席荣休（emeritus）政治哲学教授,同时还是克莱蒙研究所（Claremont Institute）杰出学者（Distinguished Fellow）。雅法著述达十部之多,还与人合著或参与写作了大量其他作品；他还撰写了戈德华特（Barry Goldwater）在1964年共和党全国大会上接受提名的演讲词。雅法曾获得福特基金会、洛克菲勒基金会、古根海姆基金会以及埃尔哈特基金会的研究基金,并是邱吉尔学会（Winston S. Churchill Association）的建会主席。雅法在耶鲁大学获学士学位,在社会研究新学院（New School for Social Research）获博士学位。
