Susan L. Shirk is the Director of the University of California Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation and Professor in the Department of Political Science and the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at the University of California, San Diego. She is the author of Competetive Comrades: Career Incentives and Student Strategies in China (California, 1982).
