白修德 Theodore H. White (1915-1986),美国著名政治记者、历史学家和小说家。1915年出生于波士顿,1938年毕业于哈佛大学,师从费正清,之后受聘《时代周刊》担任驻东亚记者,报道了举世震惊的1942年河南大饥荒,1945年任中国分社社长。这一经历为他的首部著作《中 国的惊雷》（Thunder Out of China,与贾安娜合著）提供了素材。在短期担任《新共和》（The New Republic）杂志编辑期间,白修德编辑出版了《史迪威日记》（The Stilwell Papers）。1948年,他移居欧洲,驻欧洲记者的经历为1953年出版的《浴火重生》（Fire in the Ashes）提供了素材。同年,他回到美国先后担任《记者报》（The Reporter）和科利尔杂志（Collier’s Magazine）的国内记者。科利尔杂志于1956年解散之后,白修德转而从事创作,在接下来的四年中,先后完成两部小说《山路》（The Mountain Road）和《十四楼观风景》（The View from the Fortieth Floor）。
